Neff (b. 22 September 1854; died 16 November 1894) before 1877, Pickaway County, Ohio. Joseph married again after 1909 and this wife survived him. He died 30 October 1924 at age 71 years. (see Joseph's obituary below.) Joseph taught school in Deland, Indiana for one year and return to Ohio.

J.P. Van Vickle - Died at Home in Ashville--Burial in Forest Cemetery Friday.
J.P. Van Vickle died at his home in Ashville Wednesday, October 30, aged 71 years. Deceased was a farmer by occupation, but had retired. He was a brother-in-law of John S. Neff of this city. Mr. Van Vickle married Miss Lucy Neff, who has been dead about 15 years. A son and two daughters survive. They are Mrs. Mary Whitlock, of Mt. Stelling; Laura Lininger of near Washington C.H., and Daniel E. Van Vickle of Commercial Point. A few years ago Mr. Van Vickle married a second wife who survives. Mr. Van Vickle had been ill for the past six weeks with hardening of the arteries. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, of this city and of the Odd Fellows. The funeral services were held at the Methodist Church at Ashville Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Internment at Forest Cemetery. --from Brian Christensen's Van Vickle Research, 1982-2000

On November 18, 1899, a petition was filed by Mary A. Van Vickle stating that under the terms of the last will and testament of her grandfather, John S. Neff, he devised to the children of his daughter, Laura/Lucy E. (Neff) Van Vickle the 75 acres of real estate in Jackson Township. That the children of said Lucy E. Van Vickle at the time of the death of the said John S. Neff were: Mary A. Van Vickle, Daniel E. Van Vickle a minor over age 14, Joseph B. F. Van Vickle a minor over age 14, Laura V. Van Vickle a minor under age 14, and one John M. Van Vickle now deceased (died on September 15, 1899). Joseph P. Van Vickle was appointed the administrator of the said John M. Van Vickle. the named Van Vickle defendants are entitled to 1/5th each of the premises. Mary A. Van Vickle elected to take the premises at teh appraised value of $4,125.

(Jon Donaldson): I am the grandson of Mary Agnes Van Vickle Whitlock (1879-1956, dau. of Joseph Pascal Van Vickle (1853-1924), son of Daniel Van Vickle III (1817-1884), son of Daniel Van Vickle (Wickel) II (1774-1834), son of Daniel I, the latter of whom I have no further information. This family settled near New Holland, OH for obvious reasons. J.P. taught school in Deland, Indiana for one year and returned to OH. I have no idea where Deland is as my map does not show it.
